We feel pretty confident that you’ve mastered the cat-eye by now. Next up? Under-eye liner. Learn how to master three dramatic looks, from the catwalk-inspired “divergent” liner to (wait for it) the reverse cat eye.
The Look: Bright Under-eye Swoop
Difficulty Level: Beginner
Why We Love It: Blue, green and teal liners have been on our radar for a while now. But summer is the perfect time to experiment with a swipe below your waterline – the bold pop of colour emphasises all eye hues.
How To: Lightly trace Laura Geller Beauty’s Gel Liner in Purple, along your upper lash line. Then apply Lila’lli’s line.define.fill in Detour along your lower lash line, from the corner to the edge of your eye.
The Look: Reverse Cat-Eye
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Why We Love It: Now that you’ve perfected your cat-eye flick, make it even more dramatic (and less expected) by playing up the inner corner of your lower lash line.
How To: Carefully rim your upper lash line starting at the inner corner using a soft, cream liner like Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick in Sapphire. Thicken the line toward the outer corner, then continue the line upwards to your brow bone. Now trace a line from your tear duct to the mid-point of your lower lashline. Fix any smudges with a cotton swab dipped in make-up remover.
The Look: Divergent Liner
Difficulty Level: Advanced
Why We Love It: We first spotted this daring, futuristic look at Chanel’s recent catwalk show. Because the under-eye liner is precise and purposeful, there’s no risk of veering into hot mess territory.
How To: Start by creating a long, straight line of liquid liner across your upper lashline and extend well past the outer corner of your eye into a wing shape. Then swipe a straight line along your lower lash line until it is the same length (make sure the two lines don’t touch!) Use a liquid liner with an ultra fine tip – we love Eyeko’s Skinny Liquid Eyeliner.
