Over two billion people tuned in worldwide on Saturday to watch Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tie the knot in Windsor. Nailing that coveted lit-from-within bridal glow, Meghan opted for understated yet beautifully radiant make-up that wasn’t a far cry from her usual look. Here are our top tips for recreating Meghan’s look for your own Big Day…
SKIN
Meghan has naturally gorgeous skin but, if you have complexion concerns, a great cleanser and moisturiser can do wonders for prepping your skin before you apply your wedding make-up. Look for lightweight formulas with radiance-boosting properties like the Darphin Lumiere Essentielle Illuminating Micellar Cleanser, which contains brightening essential oils, and the NUXE Crème Prodigieuse® Anti-Fatigue Moisturising Cream.
BASE
Whether you’re keeping your foundation ultra-lightweight like Meghan or you prefer a more heavy-duty coverage, a primer is key on your wedding day. Laura Mercier’s Radiance Foundation Primer adds a subtle radiant glow to your skin while helping to lock your make-up in place for longer. For the most natural-looking finish, we’d recommend applying your concealer first to any areas that need some extra coverage. Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer Kit is a favourite amongst wedding make-up artists, and it contains a powder to lock your hard work in place! Use a fine-tipped brush to cover any blemishes and a fluffy brush for under your eyes.
Next, use a damp beautyblender® or other make-up blending sponge to buff your foundation into your skin. The Lumene Invisible Illumination Instant Glow Beauty Serum contains pearlescent pigments for a sheer but buildable finish (great if you want your freckles to shine through like Meghan’s did!) while Benefit’s Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation offers a more medium coverage with light-diffusing properties to add that glow.
BROWS
Before your wedding day, getting your brows waxed or threaded is a beauty must-do. Meghan’s brows looked beautifully shaped but natural – filled in subtly with a soft brow shadow. Try Benefit Brow Zings which contains a powder and a wax to shape, define, and keep brow hairs in place all day.
EYES
Again, Meghan kept her eye make-up super simple with some soft grey eyeshadow along the lash line and plenty of black mascara. Take an angled brush and apply a matte shadow like Meech and Mia’s Pressed Eyeshadow in Gunmetal along your upper lashes then use a fluffy brush to soften the line – no harsh edges here! Follow with a few coats of a waterproof mascara. (Essential for such an emotional occasion!) The Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara coats every single lash with clump-free, jet-black pigment that won’t budge all day.
CHEEKS
A cream blusher is the fastest route to achieving a natural glow and Meghan appeared to be rocking a pretty peach shade on her Big Day. The Lord & Berry Blusher Crayon in Peach can be scribbled directly onto cheeks and blended in with your fingertips for a subtle wash of colour – the fuss-free application is a great choice for brides doing their own make-up on their wedding day. If you want something with a little extra shine then the LAQA & Co. B’Lighter is a blush and highlighter in one. Perfect for a more head-turning finish.
LIPS
Finally, a soft rosebud pink shade on her lips completed Meghan’s look. Benefit’s They’re Real! Double the Lip in Nude Scandal is a great choice for bride’s who want to amp up their pout thanks to the 2-in-1 lip-defining formula and semi-matte finish. Pat a little of the Dr. PawPaw Tinted Peach Pink Balm to add that healthy-looking shine and keep your lips hydrated all day long.
